Beyond the bright marquees and dim speakeasy, there is a timeless place where bouncy vaudeville meets soulful sounds and fresh comedy meets the glint of rhinestones. Smoke & Shadows is The Rockwell’s monthly burlesque and variety show that defies decade and genre, each time offering a new mix of performers from near and far.

The next Smoke & Shadows edition on June 18 has a special theme to observe the summer solstice, Pride month, and the beautiful teamwork it takes to reignite the fire of local live entertainment. When Smoke & Shadows turned five earlier this year, Elsa Riot reflected a lot on what it took to keep the heart beating that long, through horrific circumstances, uncertainty, and loss – and how much beauty and strength we gained for having done it. “Rite of Spring” will be a one-night-only revue that pays homage both to the ugly labor of survival through dark times as well as the divine rebirth and beauty of springtime. Featuring:

The return of Smoke & Shadows special cast member Harley Foxx
Moody Americana & folk from guest musician Naomi Westwater
Our favorite bubbly emcee & chanteuse Aglam B
Blooming burlesque from the Smoke & Shadows (S)executives Jessicalee Skary, Sindy Katrotic, and Elsa Riot
More TBA!

Don’t make me break out the early bird metaphor! Book your ticket right away because a show this delightfully untamed will sell out.

Still in effect as of June 1, 2022, everyone age 5 and up entering The Rockwell (at 255 Elm Street, Somerville) must show proof of full vaccination. This includes all staff, audience, cast and crew attending and/or performing at The Rockwell.

In addition, we will require all guests to wear masks while with us during performances. This includes hallways, lobby, bar area, restrooms, and once you are seated. You may remove your mask when actively sipping on that tasty beverage from the bar but mask back up once you’re done. We’ll have zero tolerance of noses in public spaces.

Be aware that these guidelines are ever-changing and if anything changes we will be in touch. Let’s all do our part to stop the spread and keep one another healthy. #MaskUP
